Motorcyclist killed in Bagerhat

A motor cyclist named Md. Kamrul Islam Shaikh (38) was killed when his motor cycle collided head on with a loaded truck on Sighnboard-Sharankhola Highway at Tulatala under Morelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday night. It is learnt from the police and the locals that the ill-fated motorcyclist who used to drive the cycle on hire was returning to Bagerhat from Morrelganj and when he reached the place of occurrence at about 8 pm the motor cycle collided head with the truck that was coming from the opposite direction and consequently, he was fatally injured. Some locals recovered him from there and admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for treatment. Considering the gravity of the injuries he was advised to be sent to Dkaka for better treatment. But he succumbed to his injuries on his way to Dhaka at the same night at about 3-30 am. The deceased was the son of one Moniruzzaman Shaikh of Daspara in Bagerhat district town.
Call to stop harassment of stone-labourers

Companigonj Upazila Stone- Labourers and Stone- Carrying Labourers Union (Reg. No Chhatta-2263) yesterday submitted memorandum through Dr. Nazmanara Khanom, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner to stop the harassment of stone-labourers . In the memorandum they alleged, although they have been lifting stones in government approved manual system but the Border Guard personnels have been harassing them even within 600 yards of line of control. But being bribed, the Border Guard personnels have been allowing some people to lift stones at night. In the memorandum, the labourer leaders opined, owing to Border Guards’ obstruction, the mass- labourers cannot work and suffer from starvation at the same time the government has been deprived of earning revenue.
Two held with fake notes in Naogaon
NAOGAON: Detectivesarrested two alleged fake currency traders along with counterfeit notes worth around Tk 83,000 from Badalgachhiupazila on Thursday night. The detainees are identified Hasan Ali Chowdhury, 38, son of late Shahidul Islam of Srirampur village in adalgachhiupazilaand SiddiqueMandol,31, son of late YousufAli of Akkelpurupazila in Joypurhat district. Being tipped-off that a ring of counterfeit note traders has planned to incorporate fake notes in the markets ahead of Eid festival, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive in Palsha villageand arrested the duo along with the fake notes. A case was filed with Badalgachhi Police Station in this connection, said MdIqbalHossain, superintendent of district police, reports UNB.
Housewife killed in Satkhira road crash
SATKHIRA: A housewife was killed as a bus ran over her at Ghorapata in KaliganjSadarupazilaon Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as BilkisParvin, 23, wife of Abu Hasan, 36 of Bashantapur village of Kolaroaupazilain the district. Witnesses said Biskis was returning home riding on her husband’s motorcycle after appearing in the Primary School Teacher Recruitment Test in the district sadar. Suddenly Bilkis dropped from the motorcycle due tosorrystate of the road around 3 pm and a speedy bus ran over her leaving her dead on the spot while her husband sustained injuries. Later, locals took Hasan toNaltaHospital for treatment, reports UNB.
Female AL leader electrocuted in Gopalganj
GOPALGANJ: A female Awami League died after being electrocuted at Kashalia village in Muksudpur upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Rashmoni Mondal, 55, Women Affairs Secretary of upazila Awami League and daughter of Pagla Mandol of the village. Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Muksudpur Police Station said Rashmoni came in contact with a live electrical wire while trying to turn her TV on and sustained severe burn injury. The injured was taken to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared her dead, reports UNB.
