2 drug traders held with private car

Police of Bagerhat Sadar Model PS arrested two drug traders along with a private car from the eastern end of the local Muniganj bridge passes by the side of Bagerhat district town on Tuesday night . At that time the police recovered 8 rounds of live cartridges of fire arms and 10 bottles of Indian phensidyl syrup from the car. At the night police raided the eastern end of the bridge and chased the private car. But the drug traders left the car and tried to flee away. Police arrested them after chasing. They are Kamruzzaman Sohag, son of one Kuddus Hawladar of village Fulhata under Morrelganj Upazila in the district and Babu Gazi, son of one Enamul Haq of village Sangdia under Kachua Upazila in the same district. Ali Azam Khan, Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Model PS disclosed, acting on a ssecret information about reaching of a bug consignment of drug to Bagerhat police laid in ambush at Muniganj bridge area on Tuesday at night.

Rabindra memorial function held in Barisal

A Rabindra- memorial function to observe the seventy-third death anniversary of Bishwa Kobi Rabindranath Thakur has been held at Barisal Aswani Kumar Hall on Tuesday night. Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad Barisal unit organized the festival with the theme of ‘Beyakul Badalsanjhey’ (with extreme eagerness at rainy evening).
Shahidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal, as chief guest inaugurated the programmes by lighting the Mangol Prodip with the participants. Discussions on life and achievements of the great poet Tagore, performing recitations, songs, dance and dramas of the Great Literary Loretta of Bangla language and literature, included in the programme. Nazrul Islam Chunnu, president JRSSP Barisal presided over the ceremonies of the programme addressed by Advocate Manabendra Batobayal, member Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy management committee, Shanti Das, Kajal Ghosh, Shamima Masud Munni, Dev Dulal Guha, cultural activists. The speakers called to to expand the practice and propagate the internal themes of the songs of Rabindranath Tagore to prevent pollution and combat aggression of bad, obscene, foreign culture.

Accused held in Chapainawabganj

Members of RAB-5 arrested one of the prime accused of the case of the attack on female UP member Nurjahan Begum from Tikribazar under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Tuesday morning. The arrested person has been identified as Md. Nahid, 25, son of Md. Azizur Rahman of Tikri village under Shibganj upazila of the district. RAB said, acting on secret information, a team of RAB raided the aforesaid area and held him at around 10-30 am. He was one of the planners and attackers on Nurjahan, RAB sources added. The sources further added that he admitted his involvement in the attack on Nurjahan in the primary interrogation and gave a lot of important information regarding the attack. A gang of miscreants made attack on Nurjahan Begum, 45, daughter of Manjur Hossain of Mobarakpur union under Shibganj upazila of the district and also a member of 1,2,3 wards of Mobarakpur UP on January 22, 2014 at Kolabari under Shibganj upazila on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway.

Body recovered in Sherpur

A dead body of an unidentified lady was recovered from Narayankhula area in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on Tuesday afternoon. The dead body was found in a branch of Brahmaputra river and it was nearly decomposed. Officer in charge of Nakla thana Md Golam Haider said the lady was not identified and She may be 20 to 25 years old. The dead body was sent to Sherpur sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A UD case was filed in Nakla thana.
