Two electrocuted in Jessore

Two people were electrocuted BSIC industrial area in Jessore town and Hauli village under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore early Thursday and Wednesday night.The victims were identified as Ilias Hossain, 38, driver of a crane at BSIC industrial area and also son of Yasin Tarafder of Shankarpur in Jessore town and Shohagh Hossain, 22, rickshaw-van puller and also son of Monwar Hossain of Hauli village.Relatives and hospital sources said the two died as they came in tough with live electric wire at around 10pm on Wednesday and 1:30am on Thursday.Dr Abdur Rashid, medical officer, Jessore General Hospital told that the duo died before they were rushed to the hospital.
Workshop on Nazrul songs held in Barisal

A two-day long Nazrul Sangeet training workshop ended at Barisal City College in the city on April 28 afternoon.The programme was jointly arranged by Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sangstha, Dhaka (BNSS) and Nazrul Sangskritic Jot, Barisal (NSJ) to spread the genuine practice based on pure notations and propagate the thematic aspects of Nazrul songs. Khairul Anam Shakil, eminent Nazrul Geeti singer and secretary of BNSS, inaugurated the workshop presided over by Papia Jesmin, vice president of the NSJ Barisal. Khairul Anam Shakil, Kalpana Anam, Mahamudul Hasan, Rezaul Karim, Sumon Majumder were the trainers of the workshop. Sixty-two young Nazrul Geeti singers of the Barisal City participated at the training workshop to spread Nazrul Geeti based on genuine and pure notations, said Gopal Krishna Guha, Secretary of NSJ Barisal. `We came here to introduce practice of original Nazrul Sangeet among the children and youths, told Khairul Anam Shakil. This was second workshop of Barisal after Jessore, Bagerhat and Khulna and over three hundred students were trained in those workshops, said Kalpana Anam BNSS official.
Robbers loot house in Gopalganj
GOPALGANJ: Robbers looted valuables, including gold ornaments and cash, from an expatriate’s house at Ramdia village in Kashiani upazila early Friday. Locals said 10-12 armed robbers swooped on the house of Jamal Minar, an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia, breaking open its collapsible gate around 12:15 am and held hostage its inmates at gunpoint. They later looted valuables, including gold ornaments and cash worth Tk 10 lakh, from the house and fled with the booty. Being resisted, the robbers stabbed Jamal’s wife, Lovely, indiscriminately, leaving her critically injured. She was admitted to a local hospital, reports UNB.
