Police arrested three government employees along with Tk 13.56 lakh of allowances meant for elderly people, widows and disabled persons in Khaliajuri upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as union social worker Mamun Uddin and technical trainer Shahidul Islam of upazila social service office, and Sonali Bank assistant officer Harun-ur-Rashid.
Khaliajuri Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sarkar Abdullah Al-Mamun said police arrested the trio along with the allowance money from the upazila parishad.
Of the total amount, Tk 8.20 lakh is in cash and Tk 5.36 lakh in cheque, he said.
Departmental action will be taken against the arrestees, the UNO said.
