Khulna celebrates 135th founding anniv as district

Different Socio-Cultural organizations here yesterday have been celebrating the 135th founding anniversary of Khulna as a district amid much enthusiasm and festivity. The third-largest city of Bangladesh Khulna was separated as a sub-division from Jessore district in 1842 and later it was recognized as a district on April 25 in 1882. Khulna was declared as a Municipal council in 1884 and promoted to a Municipal corporation in 1984. Then Khulna has been declared as a City Corporation in 1990. Marking the day, Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) brought out a colourful procession from GKDACC office at Sonadanga KDA Avenue area that paraded the main streets in the city. Parliament member Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Khulna divisional commissioner Md Abdus Samad, deputy commissioner Nazmul Ahsan, former lawmaker Nazrul Islam Manju, among others, attended the rally.
Workshop on sanitation held in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI:A day-long workshop on sanitation, hygiene promotion and increasing of social awareness among the student of community and primary school was held at Palash Upazila Parishad auditorium of the district on Monday. Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE)organized the workshop under the National Sanitation Project.Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Palash Mahamuda Aktar presided over the workshop while Executive Engineer, Department of Public Health Engineering, Bashir Ahmed presented the welcome speech at the workshop.Among others, mayor of Ghorashal Pourasabha Shoriful Hoque, District Primary Education Officer Fazlul Hoque, Vice chairman of Palash Upazila Parishad Alam Mollah, Women Vice Chairman Nasima Sultana Luky and president of Ghorashal Press Club Shofique Ahmed addressed the workshop, reports BSS.
Computer training for VDP members begins
GAIBANDHA: A 70-day basic training course on computer for members of Village Defence Parties (VDP) began at the training centre of Ansar and VDP of the town here on Monday. Sources concerned said the Ansar and VDP department has arranged the training under Bangladesh Technical Education Board, Dhaka. Director of Ansar and VDP, Rangpur range, Quazi Shakhawat Hossain formally inaugurated the training programme as the chief guest while district commandant of the department Md. Aftekharul Islam presided over the ceremony. The inaugural session was also addressed, among others, by deputy commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, district unit command, Goutam Chandra Modok, upazila Ansar and VDP officer M. Shahidul Haque, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman. Director Quazi Shakhawat Hossain said technical education like training on computer can help the youths becoming self dependent through alleviating their unemployment problem, reports BSS.
Aus incentive distributed among farmers
JAMALPUR: Agriculture department has disbursed incentive on Nerica variety Aus paddy in the district for current season. According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, under the programme 200 small and marginal farmers got the incentive worth of Tk 3,90,000 for cultivating Nerica Aus on 200 bighas of land. Each farmer got seeds, fertiliser, irrigation cost and weeding cost for cultivating a plot of one Bigha of land, reports BSS.
