Speakers stress for beggar- free society
GAIBANDHA: Speakers here on Sunday underscored proper implementation of the programmes to make the country beggar free through active participation of all. “Begging has become a social problem in the country. It must be removed from the society through appropriate rehabilitation and alternative employment of the beggars” they said. They were addressing a programme titled “Beggar Free Country” at the conference room of District Collectoate Building here on Sunday with deputy commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad in the chair. Superintendent of police (SP) M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled, general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon, civil surgeon Dr. Amir Ali, Sundarganj UNO SM Golam Kibria and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman addressed the function, among others. Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Gouripur Correspondent adds: The Students’ Cabinet Election was held successfully at the 44 schools of Gouripur upazila in Mymensingh district on Thursday. The vote casting process took place on the day from 9am to 2pm with festive mood. On spot inspection confirmed a jubilant and all-around participation in the voting process at Gouripur Pilot Girls’ High School where 21 contestants fought for 8 posts while 1316 voters from class six to ten cast their votes. An onlooker team consisted with student-representatives observed the election process. Students-representatives who played role as election commissioners, presiding officers, polling officers and other officials conducted the voting process. Minor girl violated in Shariatpur
SHARIATPUR: An eight-year old girl was raped allegedly by two teenagers at Hawlader Kandi village in Naria upazila on Saturday.The alleged rapists are Rakib Hawlader, 14, son of Nuruzzaman Hawlader of Hawlader Kandi village, and Kabir Madbar, 13, son of Khokon Madbar of Chikandi village in Sadar upazila of the district.Police and family members said Rakib and Kabir intercepted the minor girl on her way back home from playing with her friends.Later, they took her to Rakib’s house forcibly and molested her one after another. Returning home the girl fell sick seriously with bleeding profusely from her body, police said.The girl was first taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as her condition deteriorated with non-stop bleeding, said Dr Ambia Alam, a medical officer of the hospital. Contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Naria Police Station Ikram Ali Miah said a police team rushed to the spot and they are trying to arrest the alleged rapists, reports UNB.
2 held with arms, ammo in Tangail
TANGAIl: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two people along with one pistol and one magazine from Chilabari in Sadar upazila of Tangail district on Saturday night. Tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid on the house of Joynal in the area and arrested him along with his associate Sobhan, a resident of Jugni village of the upazila, around 9.30pm, said Bina Rani Das, commanding officer of CPC-3 of Rab-12, reports UNB.
