The Hindu Struggle Committee recently sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu via Mendi Safadi, the head of the Safadi Center for International Diplomacy and Public Relations, on behalf of the Hindu community in Bangladesh, where they called for the State of Israel to establish a strong relationship with them.
In the letter, they emphasized: “The Hindu brothers of India have built up the most cohesive and formal relationship with the State of Israel since the establishment of our early contacts. We understand that the relationship between the
two great religious communities is based on a few common interests that are not necessary to enumerate and which Your Excellency knows and feels better than we do.” They then stressed that they hope that this relationship will help to save the Hindu community in Bangladesh, which is the “most destitute and vulnerable human community in our nation.”
“It is worthwhile to point out that Bangladesh has no diplomatic relations with the State of Israel, which is a matter of great shock for our Jewish brothers,” the Hindu Struggle Committee noted. “We speaking on behalf of the Hindu people in Bangladesh feel really sorry about this decision that was adopted and continued onwards for decades irrespective of the political party that reigns in Bangladesh. The only reason for such an unacceptable norm continued by Bangladesh is the Muslim Brotherhood. From the very beginning, all of the governments of Bangladesh are greatly influenced by religious fanatic sentiment for committing such an injustice against Israel.”
The Hindu Struggle Committee suggested that this injustice be undone at the first available opportunity by “establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and Bangladesh. Moreover, Bangladesh must apologize to Israel for its behavior. The Bengali Hindus number more than 300 million in Bangladesh and India. They historically have a rich socio-cultural heritage and they are adroit with modern academic, scientific and spiritual knowledge. They have that in common with our Jewish brethren across the globe.” The Hindu Struggle Community stressed that the role that the Hindu Diaspora plays in science and innovation is very similar to that of the Jewish Diaspora, implying that the two communities share much in common.
