Two robbers held with arms , valuables at Savar

Two robbers were arrested by police with 3 pieces foreign pistol, 16 rounds bullet, 4 pieces magazine and robbed valuables from bank colony area of Savar on Tuesday midnight. The arrestees were identified as Sohel islam, 25, son of Rofiqul Islam of Comilla sadar area and Hasan 28, son of Rozzob Ali.Sofiqul isam ASP of Savar police station said, in previous week two house of Savar bank colony area were robbed. Over this incident, police conducted a drive at that area and arrested them with foreign arms and robbed valuables. A case was filed in this connection he added.
Week-long fair of women entrepreneurs ends in Barisal

A weeklong fair of grassroots level women entrepreneurs ended in Barisal on Sunday night. The fair was inaugurated on July 6 and ended on July 13 at Aswhini Kumar Hall premises of the city. ‘Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs Association’ Barisal organized the fair with the help of Pubali Bank on 22 stalls including one Chinese stall of imitation ornaments, said Rebeka Sultana, central vice president of the organization. The fair under caption of “Shekorer Taney (in attraction of roots) ‘ was mainly participated by the women entrepreneurs originated from Barisal region, but doing business in other regions of the country, organizers of the fair told. Among others Advocate Talukdar Md. Yunus and Jebunnesa Afroj, AL lawmakers, Saidur Rahman Rintu, AL supported Sadar upazila chairman and president Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Masuma Khanam, central joint secretary, Sabira Yasmin, district president of ‘Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs Association’, ‡ officials of different bank and business enterprises , attended various programmes of discussion held in different session of the fair. The speakers stressed on developing women entrepreneurship in different regions of the country for expanding balanced economic growth of the nation, said Himangshu Mitra, convener of the fair.

Israeli attacks on Gaza condemned

Teachers and students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) formed a human chain on the campus on Monday protesting Israeli air strikes, which killed more than a hundred civilians in Gaza. Around 500 students, teachers and officials took part in the human chain that was formed in front of the central library building of SUST yesterday. The students urged the international community to come forward with their helping hands and to stand beside the Palestinian people. A student of department of Anthropology Ali Ahmed told ‘We formed human chain to stand beside the innocent people in Palestine who were brutally killed by the Israeli armed forces’. Socheton Muslim Somaj also formed a human chain in front of Court point yesterday, protesting the Israel’s ruthless attacks on Gaza.
