Week-long agriculture technology fair begins

NATORE: A week-long Agriculture Technology Fair began at Natore Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah Government College premises here on Friday. General Secretary of District Awami League M Shafiqul Islam Shimul, MP, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at a function with Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension, Natore, in the chair. The chief guest said our country has achieved a remarkable success in agriculture sector and now it is a food exporting country.”After ensuring food security now we should take necessary steps to ensure food safety. In this regard field level agriculture officials can play vital role by using newly innovational technology,” he added. A total of 28 food production and processing and technology stalls have been set up in the fair, reports BSS.

Field-day on lentil held in Faridpur

Faridpur: A field-day for the farmers on a new variety of lentil developed by Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) was held in Ishubpur village under Sadar upazila of the district on Friday. The new variety of Lentil known as BARI-7 developed by local scientists of Pulses Research Institute of Gazipur and other concerned organizations of agriculture department gives an yield of 25 percent to 30 percent more than the conventional lentil, the senior scientists of the department related with the research told the farmers. The scientists further told the farmers that this new BARI-7 is an insects resistant variety. They urged the farmers to use new variety seed of lentil for boosting production as well economic benefit. The function was addressed, among others, by Chief scientist of Pulses Research Institute, Gazipur Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, scientists Md. Kibria and Dr. Selim Ahemd. It was chaired by Faridpur zone chief of Pulses Research Institute Dr. Mahiuddin, reports BSS.

USAID being funded $50 m agri sector in south- west

The USAID is funding $50 million in agricultural sector in the south western region of the country for producing poison -free vegetables, flower cultivation transportation of agricultural products and infrastructure development . Michel G Nelson, project director, Bangladesh agricultural infrastructure development programme (BAIDP), USAID, told at a two-day training held at LGED training centre in Jessore on Thursday and Friday. Local government engineering department organized the two -day training on environmental management, road safety and quality control. Syed Saiful Alam, superintendent engineer, LGED, Jessore region chaired the training while it was attended among others by Manjur Alam Siddiqui, executive engineer, Jessore region, USAID officials and engineers and journalists.

BGB recovers 10 lakh Indian rupee in Benapole

Members of Border guard Bangladesh recovered a total of 10 lakh Indian rupees chasing two smugglers at Putkhali frontier under Benapole port police station at around 11am on Saturday, Subedar Hare Krishna Roy, Putkhali camp in-charge, 21 Border Guard Battalion told newsmen.
The BGB official told that tipped off the BGB personnel seized 2000 rupee notes worth 10 lakh rupee chasing two smugglers along the frontier. ‘The smugglers fled the scene leaving the money in a bag’, he added, ‘the rupees were handed over to Benapole port police.’
