Eight killed in lightning

Eight people were killed and seven others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Magura, Chuadanga and Chittagong districts on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
According to reports reaching the UNB news desk, two siblings were killed in a lightning strike during a storm at Napura village in Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mobarak Hossain, 10, son of Nurul Amin of the area and his sister Jannatul Bakia, 8.
Locals said a thunderbolt hit Mobarak and Jannatul while playing near their house around 9:15 am, leaving the siblings seriously injured.
They were taken to Banshkhali Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared them dead, said officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station Swapan Majumder.
In Magura, three people were killed and five others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in different villages of Sadar upazila on Friday evening.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Munshi Asaduzzaman said three people – Sindabad, 22, of Andelbaria village, Malin, 25, of Laxmipur village and Yeadul, 40, of Gopalpur village – died on the spot as thunderbolts struck on them around 7 pm in their respective villages.
Five people – Naim Mallik, 17, of Parla village, Salma Begum, 25, of Chapatala village, Billal, 22, Nousher Ali, 48, Sumon Ali, 26, of Kushbaria village were also injured during the incident, the OC said.
