3 GB officials get 10-yr imprisonment for misappropriations

A Barisal court on Wednesday sentenced three officials of Grameen Bank to 10-year imprisonment each for misappropriations. The sentenced three accused were Delwar Hossain, former manager, Shah Alam, former officer, Manirul Islam, former center manager of Grameen Bank Rayepasha-Karapur branch of GB. Dilip Kumar Bhoumik, judge of the divisional special tribunal, announced this verdict in presence accused Manirul Islam and absence of absconding two others. The court also fined the accused Tk. 5 lakhs each or to serve more six months imprisonment in default after examining 19 witnesses and other documents. Court sources said the accused collected Tk.4.17 lakhs showing as loans against six clients from July 29, 2010 to July 4, 2011 and later depositing Tk. 1.19 lakhs misappropriated rest Tk. 2.98 lakhs. After receiving allegations from the clients GB authourity suspended the officials and Anti Corruption Commission started investigation. Wazed Ali Gazi, assistant director of ACC Barisal office , lodged a case in this connection against the three accused on November 24, 2013 after receiving facts in investigation. Nazimuddin, deputy director of ACC, submitted charge sheet against the accused on February 26, 2015.
 Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day observed in Bagerhat

The historic Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas by the ruling Awami League and its front organization in a befitting manner. In this connection a colourful joy rally that was brought out from the local Rail Road Awamik League office premises paraded the main roads of Bagerhat district town in the after noon. It was attended by the local leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organizations like Chatra League, Jubo League, Sramik League, Tanti League etc. The rallyh was ended at the same venue. Later a discussion meeting was held there with Adv. Hemayet Bhuiya, Vice-president , Bagerhat District Unit Awami League in the chair. It was addressed among others by Sardar Fakrul Alam Saheb, Joint Assistant Secretary of Bagerhat District Awami League, Shaikh Bashirul Isam, President of Bagerhat Poura Awami League, Shaikh Aktaruzzaman Baschu, President of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Awami League, Monir Hossain, President of Bagerhat Zila Chatra League and Md. Monir Hossain, Joint Assistant Secretary of Bagerhat Zila Sweschasebak League.
One held with Yaba tablets in C’nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged illegal drug peddler with 500 Yaba tablets from Dakkhin Uzirpur under Shibganj upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon. RAB sources said the arrested was identified as Astarul, 38, son of Md Bazlur Rahman of Charpanka Setarapara village under the same upazila. The sources said, acting on secret information, an operation team of the force from Chapainawabganj camp raided the area around 3pm and arrested Astarul with the Yaba tablets. He was handed over to the local police station after filing a case.
3 rice workers suffer burn injuries in boiler blast
SIRAJGANJ: Three workers including two women sustained burn injuries in a boiler blast in Shiyalcoal Bazar area of Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening. The injured were indentified as Sober Ali, 50, Sakera Beoya, 48 and Hafiza Khatun, 35, all residents of Shiyallcoal village. Abdul Mannan, chairman of Shiyalcoal union parishad, said that boiler of a husking machine exploded while 4-5 workers were working at a rice mill in the area around 6pm, leaving three workers burn injured, reports UNB
The condition of two among the injured was critical, added the UP Chairman.
