Hijab-clad Muslim cop harassed in US

An off-duty hijab-clad Muslim police officer was called “ISIS” and told to go back to her “country” by a white man who also pushed her 16-year-old son, the latest in a series of incidents in which headscarf-wearing women have been targeted in the US following Donald Trump’s win.
Officer Aml Elsokary, who was off duty and wearing her hijab, dropped off her son in Brooklyn. After parking her car, she returned to the scene to find her son being shoved by the suspect, a white man in his 30s.
Abe to visit Pearl Harbor

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is to become the first Japanese prime minister to visit Pearl Harbor, announcing Monday a trip to Hawaii this month for talks with US President Barack Obama.
“I will visit Pearl Harbor” with Obama, he told reporters in comments broadcast live on television.
Abe, who will be in Hawaii on December 26 and 27, will visit the site of the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, that began World War II in the Pacific.

Qatar jet makes emergency landing

A Qatar Airways jet made an an emergency landing at a Portuguese military base in the Azores islands Sunday after heavy turbulence injured passengers.
The Boeing 777, bound from Washington to Doha, was re-routed during a storm to the Azores, a Portuguese territory in the North Atlantic, and landed at the Lajes Air Base.

Uzbek interim leader wins presidency

Uzbekistan’s interim leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev has won a landslide victory to become the country’s second-ever president following the death of long-reigning strongman Islam Karimov, official results said Monday.
According to the Central Election Commission, Mirziyoyev scooped 88.6% of the vote after a preliminary count in this central Asian country which has a population of 32 million.
