Youth arrested with pistol, ammos in Barisal

Police arrested one youth with a pistol and five rounds ammunitions with two magazines on Monday morning from Hatem Ali College area at Nabogram Chowmatha in the city. The arrestee was identified as Mahbub Alam, 28, son of Zayedur Rahman, from Rahampur of Gomostapur under Chapainawabganj district. Azad Rahman, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said a police team led by Sub Inspector Delwar Hossain of Barisal Kotwali police station on basis of a tip-off took position in the area and arrested Mahbub with arms ammunitions at about 9:30 AM Monday. SI Delwar said in primary interrogation Mahbub confessed that he was an arms-trader and came Barisal to supply arms ammunitions to a miscreant gang. A case would be lodged against the arrestee under arms act after more interrogation.
Jhenaidah RAB nabs 4 drug peddlers

RAB personnel in Jhenaidah in separate drives arrested four drug peddlers and seized huge contrabanned items from Arpara village in Jhenaidah Sadar and Bananipara area of Chuadanga district on Sunday. The law enforcers seized 180 bottles of phensedyl syrup, 50 grams of hemp and cash for Taka 6,500 in a drive at Arpara in Jhenaidsh Sadar. In another drive the RAB men seized six bottles of foreign liquor, 127 pieces of yaba tablet, 54 bottles of phensedyl syrup and cash for Taka 2,238 from nearest graveyard in Chuadanga. The arrested were identified as Rokan Mandal, 25, 32, on of Moksed Ali of Chaklapara, Sariful Islam, son of Yunus Ali of Arappur Masterpara in Jhenaidah Sadar, Sahidul Islam, 30, son of Azizul Haque of Joynagar village and Antar Rahman, 22, son of Mokhlesur Rahman of Cinema Hallpara of Chuadanga Sadar.
MC College hostel will be functional soon

The 90 years old hostel of Murari Chand (MC) College in Sylhet will be functional soon, which was burnt down in an arson attack during a clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League and Shibir activists on July 8, 2012. However, the hostel was Reformation in 2014; it remained abandoned due to some administrative problems including pending gas bills, According to college authorities. The college principal Nitai Chandra Chanda said, The hostel will start functioning within the next two weeks. The college, established in 1892 by Raja Girish Chandra Roy, was named after his grandfather Murari Chand. The one-storey hostel was built in 1921, following the British period architecture of Half Wall Assam pattern with tin, and half wall. Principal Nitai Chandra Chanda said that after overcoming all the predicaments they had decided that the hostel will be functional after the Eid-Ul-Fitr.
