BGB recovers Indian goods in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh seized Indian goods worth Tk 2 crore, 10 lakh and 18 thousand raiding a covered van at Amrakhali under Benapole port police station, Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Battalion said on Friday. The BGB CO told that BGB men seized cotton and clothing imported from India over invoicing on July 27. The seizure was made at Amrakhali under Benapole port police station on the day. Later the goods were deposited to Jessore Customs.
World Tiger Day observed in Mongla

With the slogan “Bagh Amader Jatiyo Prani; Sabai Mile Bagh Rakkha Kari (Tiger is our National Beast: we all should jointly protect it)” the World Tiger Day-2016 was celebrated in Mongla and Sharankhola Upazilas in Bagerhat in a befitting manner on Friday . In this connection a colourful rally was brought out in Mongla Port town and paraded its main roads and it ended at Mongla Upazila Parishad Complex. It was followed by a lively discussion meeting held in Mongla Upazila Parishad auditorium with Belayet Hossain, ACF of Chandpai Forest Range under the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest in the chair while it was addressed by Abu Taher Hawladar, Chairman of Mongla Upazila Parishad and Mohammad Ali Prince, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Mongla as the chief guest and special guest respectively.
College student killed in road accident

Iram Rahman, 18, HSC 2nd year student of Syed Hatem Ali College of Barisal, killed at the spot and another one injured critically on Saturday noon at Boalia under Bakerganj upazila on Barisal-Patuakhali road. Sub Inspector Hasan of Bakerganj police station, said Iram with another friend while crossing Bakerganj Islamia College on motorcycle collided with a pickup at about 1:30 pm on Saturday. Local people rushed to the spot sent the both in critical condition to Barisal Sher- e- Bangla Medical College Hospital where Iram declared as dead.The other one yet not identified as remain senseless till this report, police and hospital sources said. Police detained the pickup, but its driver and passengers managed to flee, SI Hasan told.From the college identity card Iram was identified as son of Anisur Rahman Dulal, AL president of ward- 22 at TTC area of the city.

576 Pieces Yaba recovered, 1 held

The members of Rapid Action Batalian (RAB-9) in separate drives recovered 576 pieces Yaba tablets and arrested one drug peddlers from Dakshin upazila in the district on Tuesday.
The arrestees are identified as Abul Hossain (55). RAB officer Ziaul Hoque said, acting on a tip-off, the RAB arrested Abul Hossain from Mominkhola area under the Dakshin upazila and recovered 576 Yaba tablets from their possessions. A case was filed on Dakshin Surma Police station in this connection. OC of Dakshin Surma S.M Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Anti-terror rally held at SUST
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) brought out an anti-militancy rally on its campus Thursday. The rally which started in front of the administrative building was attended by Sust Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan. “Bangladesh is a secular country and there is no room for militants, said the VC. The university staff, teachers and students also took part in the rally that marched through the campus. Meanwhile, Sectors Commanders Forum district and City unit of Barisal staged a human chain in front Ashwani Kumar Hall of the city Thursday calling unity to prevent militancy. Muktijoddha Samsad with its different organisations, college teachers and students joined the programme.
