Newborn rescued from Tangail drain dies

A newborn baby, who was rescued by a hospital staff from a drain, died at the Dhaka Sishu Hospital on Monday.
The baby had been undergoing treatment in the capital since Sunday.
A female cleaner of the Tangail General Hospital rescued the baby on January 4 from the hospital’s drain. The baby was hospitalised the same day, said Abdul Hamid, deputy-director of Tangail Social Welfare Department.
Later, the baby, weighing 1.3 kg, was taken to the Special Care Unit of the hospital.
On Sunday, it was shifted to Shishu Hospital where the baby succumbed to his injuries around 9:30am.
