Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold a national convention to create awareness among the people against militancy and terrorism, party standing committee member Brigadier General (rtd) ASM Hannan Shah on Monday said.
“I would like to make my party’s stand clear that people will reach consensus on national unity in order to build up awareness among them against terrorism and militancy. A council or convention will be arranged in this regard. All will be invited to attend the convention. Even the ruling Awami League (AL) will also be invited,” he said while addressing a protest rally at National Press Club in the city.
Jatiyatabadi Shechchhasebok Dal organised the programme to protest the BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman’s conviction of seven years jail in a money laundering case.
Hannan Shah accused the government of hatching conspiracy to destroy BNP, saying it is not capable to curb militancy from the country.
“Being failed to run the country, the government is now trying to destroy the nationalist force. It is not possible for the government to curb militancy as it is giving shelter the terrorists,” he alleged.
Hannan Shah said with people assistance and supports BNP will forge national unity.
“By indulging in repression the government wants to make the opposition political parties vulnerable,” he said, adding it is also trying to deceive people in the name of the national consensus against militancy.
“AL is not honest in forging national consensus as the party has already formed unity with the terrors. Its unity is now with once Ganobahini leaders but not with the people,” he said.
Shechchhasebok Dal Senior Vice President Munir Hossain presided over the rally. BNP Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, Mahila Dal General Secretary Shirin Sultana, Shechchhasebok Dal Vice-President Golam Sarwar and Office Secretary Aktaruzzaman Bachchu, among other, were gave speech on the programme.
