New Zealand clinched the Twenty20 International (T20I) series 3-0 defeating Bangladesh by 65 runs in the rain-interrupted third and final T20I at the Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand on Thursday.
Chasing the home side’s massive total of 141 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 10 overs ( Ten overs were curtailed due to rain), Bangladesh were all out for a meager 76 off 9.3 overs.
Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership. Opener Mohammad Naim, fourth-down Mosaddek Hossain and opener Soumya Sarkar could reach the double digit figures. Naim hit a notable 19 from 13 balls including two sixes and one four.
Mosaddek Hossain and Soumya Sarkar scored 13 and 10 runs respectively.
Todd Astle captured four wickets at the cost of 13 runs, Tim Southee grabbed three wickets instead of 15 runs.
Besides, Glenn Phillips, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne took one wicket each for 11, 13 and 24 runs respectively. Earlier, openers Finn Allen and Martin Guptill made a solid start adding together 85 runs in the opening stand before Guptill was caught at the deep cover by Afif Hossain off Mahedi Hasan.
After Guptill’s dismissal, Allen and Glenn Phillips put on together 38 runs for the second wicket partnership before Phillips (14) was caught at the mid-off by Soumya Sarkar off Shoriful Islam when the hosts’ total was 123 for the loss of two wickets. Then Allen was caught by substitute Mehidy Hasan Miraz off Taskin Ahmed.
Allen cracked a windy 71. His 29-ball innings saw three sixes and 10 fours. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his terrific innings.
Guptill hit a fine 44. His 19-ball knock had five sixes and one four. Glenn Phillips was adjudged the Player of the Series. Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan got one wicket each conceding 21, 24 and 34 runs respectively.
