New industrial estate set up in Paba

Effective initiative has been taken to build a new industrial area here keeping the provision of more than 500 industrial plots including job creation opportunities of around 10,000 people.
To this end, site selection process on 50 acres of land in Nalkola area under Paba Upazila of the district has already been finalized.
Md Muniruzzaman, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said there will be some 100 percent export-oriented garment factories along with the small and medium enterprises in the estate. “We have plan for establishing 500 industries. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has a positive response in the regard,” he added.
Already, the entrepreneurs have been urged to invest in the industrial zone, added the chamber leader.
Women entrepreneurs will be given top priority. Special measures were adopted so that the women entrepreneurs could establish industries in the zone. Response of the women entrepreneurs is very impressive, he added.
Around 50 to 60 plots will be allotted for the 100 percent export-oriented garment factories. Besides, there has been provision of agro-machinery factories coupled with different small and medium industries.
Altaf Hossain, Regional Director of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), here said the government has taken the responsibility of providing industrial plots to the actual entrepreneurs as per the necessity.
He said the present government has a separate view-point towards Rajshahi’s development and intends to accelerate its socio-economic improvement through the best use of the existing industrial potentialities. It is very much committed to ensure proper utilization of allocated plots for industrial purpose aiming to promote industrialization in the country.
He said the government has given special emphasis on building planned industrial estates throughout the country to attain the goal of sustainable and eco-friendly industrialization.
“The industrial plots will be developed considering the country’s socio-economic condition and future necessity, as the entrepreneurs are expanding the SME gradually in the region,” he added.
He informed 10 per cent of the industrial plots in the estate would be kept reserved for the women entrepreneurs. BSCIC would implement the project titled “Extension of Rajshahi BSCIC Industrial Estate” with an estimated cost of around Taka 132 crore by June 2017.
In the project, there will be three types of industrial plots. The number of A-type industrial unit is 83 having 6,000 square feet each while 89 units will be of B-type with 4,500 square feet each and the remaining plots will be S-type with the size of 3,500- 8,000 square feet.
Altaf Hossain said the existing industrial estate of BSCIC Rajshahi has no plots, but demands are being placed by the entrepreneurs.
