The new central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, is likely to be formed soon to strengthen the activities of the organisation, BCL sources said.
The incumbent central body, led by its President HM Badiuzzaman Sohag and General Secretary Nazmul Alam, had plan to hold the next national council of BCL within short time.
They have already taken some initiatives in this regard after meeting with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina where the PM directed the BCL office- bearers to form the new committee as early as possible, sources said.
Meanwhile, the aspirants for the top posts have already started lobbying with the high-ups of both Awami League and BCL present and former leaders.
The most top aspirants are: Joint General Secretary of central committee Shamsul Kabir Rahat, Organising Secretary Anwar Hossain Anu, Office Secretary Sheikh Rasel, Sports Secretary Abid Al Hasan, Environment Secretary Saifur Rahman Sohag, Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Enayet, Relief and Disaster Secretary Nur-e-Alam, Science and Information Secretary Abdullah Al Noor Songram, Information and Research Secretary Arshad Chowdhury, Drama and Debate Secretary-Wahidur Rahman Joy, Deputy Law Secretary Biplob Hasan Palash and Golam Rabbani, Deputy International Affairs Secretary, Human Resource Secretary Shahnewaz Prodhan Shuvo, Agricultural Secretary Raisul Islam Jewel, Assistant Secretary Golam Baki Chowdhury, Vice President of DU unit Arifuzzaman Rohan, Joint General Secretary of DU unit HM Al Amin Ahmed and Organising Secretary Chandra Shekhor Halder, Assistant Secretary of central committee Asaduzzaman Nadim, Moyaz Uddin Sharif (Ruel), Deputy Cultural Secretary Sheikh Arman, Liberation War Secretary Arup and Deputy Social Welfare Secretary Ahsan Habib.
HM Badiuzzaman Sohag told The New Nation yesterday that the date of the national council would be declared within a short time.
“Bangladesh Chhatra League is the oldest student organisation in this region. It has also a glorious past,” Sohag said.
According to the tradition of the organisation the BCL leaders will hold DU unit council before holding the national council.
