The Project of Tk 225 crore has been approved for the expansion of Nilphamari-Saidpur Road in the Economic Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).
In the National Economic Council Conference Room of Sher-e-Bangla Road in the capital, ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the President approved the project on Tuesday.
Roads and Highways Department, Nilphamari office sources said Tk 225 crore would be spent for the expansion of the 15-kilometer road from Chaurangi More of Nilphamari town to Saidpur Wapada. Meanwhile, there are various development activities including land acquisition, construction of dam, construction of RCC culverts and drain works.
Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways Department of Nilphamari Abul Khayer Mohammad Hamidur Rahman said that the project has been passed to extend the roads of Nilphamari- Saidpur and also to make it strong and long lasting. Roads and Highways Departmeent sources said, the 18-feet road will now be expanded to 32 feet. For this, the acquisition of land, the movement of electricity poles and the process of cuting trees will be started soon. Road expansion will be started in this fiscal year.
Executive Engineer Hamidur Rahman said the expanded road will bring benefits for the residents of Saidpur and Nilphamari. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nilphamari District Awami League President and Nilphamari Municipal Mayor Dewan Kamal Ahmed said that the roads has become very busy and crowdy now.
