UNB, Dhaka :
Australia’s newly elected Prime Minister Scott Morrison has thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for congratulating him following his takeover.
“I’m pleased to note the strength and breadth of the relationship between our countries. Our two-way trading relationship grew by more than 11 percent last year and we cooperate closely in counter-terrorism and tacking other
transnational crime. The 49,000 people of Bangladesh descent in Australia make a highly valued contribution to Australian society,” he said in a message received here on Thursday.
“I acknowledge Bangla-desh’s leadership in response to the Rohingya crisis. As you’re aware, Australia has committed $70 million in humanitarian relief, most of which has been directed to provide food, shelter and other essential and other essential services to those displaced,” Morrison said.
He also expressed his willingness to work with the Bangladesh Prime Minister to strengthen the bilateral relationship. On August 24 last, Scott Morrison was sworn in as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia.
