The historic 7th March, a red letter day in the history of the Bangalees’ long arduous freedom struggle was observed in different districts on Wednesday in a befitting manner amid much enthusiasm. Different social , cultural and political organisations arranged various programmes to mark the Day. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Netrakona Correspondent says: The historic 7th March was observed here on Wednesday with much enthusiasm commemorating the historic speech delivered by father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Race Course Maidan now Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on March 7, 1971.
In observance of the day, different socio-cultural and political organizations and professional groups chalked out various programs. The programs included placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, bringing out colourful rallies and holding of discussion meetings.
To mark the day, the leaders of Awami League (AL) Netrakona district unit and it’s front organizations formally placed floral wreaths at the portrait of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh mujibur Rahman at the district AL office here in the morning.
The party and it’s front organizations also brought out a colorful rally in the district town here. Apart from the party leaders local people from all walks of life also joined the rally that started from the district AL office and ended there after parading the man roads of the town.
Before ending, it was addresed, among others, by president of AL Netrakona district unit Motiur Rahman Khan, general secretary Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, chairman of Netrakona zila parishad Prasanta Kumar Ray and Mayor of Netrakona pourasava Nazrul Islam Khan.
The speakers recalled the outstanding contributions including bold leadership, courageous role and right directions of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to achieve the independence of Bangladesh.
BSS from Rangpur reports: Speakers at separate discussions on Wednesday termed the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu as the factual proclamation of independence containing clear direction for launching ultimate struggle for national freedom.
They expressed the view at the discussions organised by district administration, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, different socio- cultural and professional organisations as parts of daylong programmes in observance of the historic March 7.
The observance of the day got special significance this year as the historic March 7 speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was included in the Memory of World International Register maintained by UNESCO last year.
The other programmes include hoisting of the national and party flags, placing wreaths at the portrait and mural of Bangabandhu, colourful rally and discussions.
The epoch-making historic speech of Bangabandhu on this day at the Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) in 1971 was played in the city, upazila headquarters and important places in the district.
The district and upazila units of AL, its associate bodies including Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchasebak League (SSL), Krishak League, Sramik League, socio-cultural and professional organisations observed the day in befitting manners.
The district administration organised the main discussion at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner and heads of different government departments and educational institutions, politicians, civil society members and professionals attended the event.
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib addressed the main discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Rabiul Islam in the chair.
Similarly, leaders of the district and city units of AL and its associate bodies addressed separate discussions arranged on different venues in the city.
Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, addressed the programme, among others.
The speakers highlighted the significance of Bangabandhu’s historic March 7 speech that got the recognition of UNESCO and gave the Bengali Nation concrete direction to launch struggle for achieving ultimate national independence.

Different socio-cultural organisations and professional bodies also chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
The day’s programmes began with the hoisting of national and party flags atop of the party office buildings and placing wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four other national leaders in the morning.
City unit Awami League President AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and its General Secretary Dablu Sarker joined the programmes. Other local leaders including Bazlur Rahman, Meer Iqbal, Shafiqur Rahman, Dr Sheikh Tabibur Rahman and Habibur Rahman were present on the occasion.
Marking the day, most of the city offices of the party played the historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu throughout the day alongside holding discussions.
AL city unit held discussion at its office this noon highlighting significance of the historic speech with its President AHM KhairuzzamanLiton in the chair. Front ranking leaders of the unit also spoke at the discussion.
The discussants said the tantalising speech of Bangabandhu literally had a sparkling effect on the entire population in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and they became united under his capable and farsighted leadership to bravely fight for liberating the motherland from Pakistani rule.

On this day in 1971, the great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his epoch-making speech of independence at the Race Course Maidan, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka.
Khulna City and District Unit Awami League (AL) has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The day was begun through hoisting of National and Party flags atop of the AL office around 7am. Leaders and activists of AL and its front organisations placed floral wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The historic speech of Bangabandhu was played in loud speaker at all wards, thana offices in the city and district.
President of District AL unit Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid addressed a discussion as the chief guest held at the party office with AL city unit President Talukder Abdul Khaleque in the chair.
Among others, City Unit AL General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizan, AL leader advocate Chisty Sohrab Hossain, advocate Sarder Rajob Ali, Mahbub Alam Sohag and Md A Babul Rana were present, among others, on the occasion.
The speakers discussed about the importance of the day in building an independent and prosperous Bangladesh.
They also hailed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the achievement as historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu got UNESCO recognition.
Meanwhile, Khulna District Information Office chalked out various programme to mark the day.

In the afternoon, a mass congregation was held on the premises of Central Shahid Minar of the town here. President of Poura Awami Leauge and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon presided over the meeting.
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah addressed the meeting as the chief guest and president of district AL Advocate Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru and general secretary Abu Bakar Siddique were present at the event as special guests.
Moderated by general secretary of Poura AL Imarul Islam Sabin, the function was also addressed, among others, by organizing secretary freedom fighter Mojammel Haque, office secretary Saiful Alam Saka, and AL leaders Shah Sarwar Kabir, Tanjimul Islam Jamil, Aminur Zaman Rinku, and Sarder M. Shahid Hasan Loton.
Deputy speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah said the 7th March speech of Bangabandhu had a sparkling effect on the entire population in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and they became united under his efficient leadership to bravely fight for liberating the motherland.
