The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is set to introduce online income tax return submission system from July’16 in a bid to make the taxpaying system friendly to the people, competent sources said.
The revenue board will introduce the system under “Strengthening Governance Management Project” of a tax department.
Vietnamese based IT firm FPT Information System Corporation is implementing the project with the financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project costs Tk.510 million. Under the project, a high tech machine will setup at computer council premise where all the data will be stored and monitored the whole system.
“We’ve started this project to digitize the entire NBR,” said Project Director Kalipad Haldar.
“Our goal is to make the tax division automated and paperless, he added saying the plan was scheduled to start from March as pilot project and complete before June.
“Taxpayers will be able to pay taxes, submit returns and get receipts through online ‘e-payment’ system from July,” Haldar said.
“They will also be able to submit tax returns and pay taxes through online without visiting offices. Taxmen will collect taxes directly from bank accounts with the electronic signature of taxpayers,” he added.
“As per our estimation, some 6,00,000 existing valid taxpayers are yet to obtain e-TIN. We hope they would take the opportunity of obtaining online TIN by June 30, the deadline for e-TIN registration,” the project director said.
The NBR has considered old TIN holders, who have paid tax once during the last five years, as valid taxpayers. Some 1.8 million TIN holders have been found under the category.
