Navy personnel off to Lebanon

The first group of 135 members of Bangladesh Navy left Chittagong on Monday night to join United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission BANCON-8 in Lebanon.
The navy members will join naval ships ‘Ali Haider’ and ‘Nirmul’, said an ISPR press release on Tuesday.
Commanding officer of BNS Isa Khan Commodore M Musa saw off the navy members at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
The second group of another 135 navy members will leave for Lebanon on June 23 to join the UN peacekeeping mission.
For the first time in 2010 following the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Navy added a new dimension in Peacekeeping by sending BNS `Osman’ and BNS `Madhumati’.
Besides patrolling, they are spying on suspecting ships and aircraft, Maritime interdiction operation, rescuing ships from accident, the release added.
