Chess players of Bangladesh Navy got success in Bangladesh Category of the Joytu Sheikh Hasina International Online Chess Tournament, which concluded on Saturday. Chess players of Bangladesh Navy obtained 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 11th and 19th place among the Bangladeshi chess players. Fide Master Subrota Biswas of Bangladesh Navy became 1st, Fide Master Javed of Bangladesh Navy secured 2nd position and International Master Abu Sufian Shakil of Bangladesh Navy gained 3rd position.
The chess meet was held on the eve of the 74th birthday celebration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. South Asian Chess Council arranged the prestigious chess competition, sponsored by Canadian University with the assistance of Golden Sporting Club.
The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Hotel Le Meridien, Dhaka on Sunday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest. President of Bangladesh Chess Federation and Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Benazir Ahmed was also present on the occasion.
A total of 74 chess players including 49 Bangladeshi chess players took part in the grand chess competition. 12 chess players of Bangladesh Navy among Bangladeshi chess players participated in the chess tournament.
