Narsingdi-Free Day celebrated

 Narsingdi Free Day was observed yesterday in a befitting manner. On this day in 1971, hundreds of freedom fighters entered the town and freed it from the occupation Pakistani army.
To mark the day, Narsingdi District Administration and District Muktijuddha Sangsad organised a rally and discussion meeting.
Narsingdi, 55-kilometer away from the capital Dhaka, had a glorious role in the historic Liberation War in1971. So the day, December 12, is considered as the most significant and remarkable day for the inhabitants of the district.
Many named and unnamed freedom fighters embraced martyrdom at the last battle in Narsingdi. Freedom fighters attack Pakistani army on the night of December 10. A heavy battle continued across Narsingdi in which the moral of Pakistani force broke down.
The district was freed following the fierce-fighting between the freedom fighters and the Pakistani occupation forces.
A total of nine freedom fighters of the district were awarded for their heroic contribution in the Liberation War.
They were Flight Lt. Shaheed Motiur Rahman Bir Shrestha. Captain Late ANM Nurzaman Bir Uttam, Lt. Abdur Rouf Bir Bikram, Shaheed Shabuddin Bir Bikram, Sobedar Motiur Rahman Bir Bikram, Lt colonel Nazrul Islam Bir Pratik, Naval Siraj Uddin Bir Pratik, Sobedar Mobarak Hossain Bir Pratik and Mohammad Mozammal Hoque Bir Pratik.
