Staff Reporter :
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday expressed his dissatisfaction over the budget allocation in the education sector. The allocation is less than the previous year.
“The budget allocation in the education sector was 11.7 percent of the total budget in 2014-15 fiscal year. But it is 10 percent this year whereas the number of the students is increasing day by day. At this, how will the education ministry meet the expenses,” the minister said.
He said this while addressing a reception programme organised for the students, who attained GPA-5 in Primary School Certificate (PSC) and
Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinations-2014, in the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU).
The DRU organized the reception for the highest-grade holder sons and daughters of its members.
DRU President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha presided over the function while the Editor of Dhakatimes24.com Arifur Rahman was present as special guest.
Welfare Secretary of DRU Shahnaj Sharmin moderated the function while DRU former President Shaheed Chowdhury, DRU General Secretary Elias Hossain, Dhaka Union of Journalists’ President Omar Faraque, DRU Vice-President Rafiqul Islam Azad, reception programme co-ordination committee Convener and DRU Joint-Secretary Fredous Ahmed Mobaraque and Member Secretary Kamal Uddin Sobuj and Chief Reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Modhusudon Dutta spoke the function, among others.
