Staff Reporter :
Mystery shrouds over the death of a couple following the fall from the rooftop of a building at Biswa Road residential area adjacent to Kaibaillya Dham in Chittagong on Thursday.
Local police by terming the incident instantly “nothing but an accident” has given birth to speculation among the local people that the couple might have been
murdered.
Both the victims, Rajib Chowdhury, 40, and his wife Sanchita Shil, 35, received fatal injuries in different parts of their bodies including head when they fell on the ground in front of their newly built house.
The police has sent the bodies to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital [CMCH] for post mortem.
When contacted, Abdul Majid, OC of Akbar Shah Police Station said, “Sanchita fell on her husband from the roof. It was an accident.”
The OC, however, refused to make further comment when he was asked how he became sanguine about the accident.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the victim ruled out the police statement. They have also alleged the couple Rajib, a teacher of Feroz Shah Coloney City Corporation Girls’ High School, and Sanchita, an inspector under Food Controller’s office in Hathajari, were killed by a gang of miscreants following a conflict over payment of extortion money.
The couple is survived by two minor daughters – Akshaya Chowdhury Arpa,9 and Adrita Chowdhury, 3.
“It is a murder. We have found injury marks on Rajib’s head and the tendons of his sister-in-law were slashed. We suspect local goons might have killed my brother because they refused to pay extortion money,” said Rajib’s brother Abhijit Chowdhury.
