Mobarakganj Sugar Mills start crushing amid Tk 150cr loss

The Mobarakganj Sugar Mills Limited, the largest heavy industry in Jhenaidah and an enterprises of Banagladesh Sugar and food industries corporation has started its crushing for 2016-2017 season on Saturday afternoon heading a loss for Tka 150 crore. Lawmaker of Jhenaidah-4 constituency Anwarul Azim Anar inaugurated the crushing as chief guest putting the cane in the crushing pot.
Presided over by chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation AKM Delwar Hossain, a number of local elite, political personalities, media activists and sugarcane farmers were present during the inaugural session.
The mills sources said, they had taken target to produce 7,500 tones of sugar crushing 90,000 tones of sugarcane in the current crushing season. The mills produced 4,124 tones of sugarcane in the past crushing season as against its target for 7,000 tones.
Mention may be made that the mills have incurred a loss for Taka 150 crore in past 46 years started in 1967-68 fiscal.
