JS panel to probe fertiliser heist from BADC warehouse

A three-member parliamentary subcommittee has been formed to probe the incident where 3,000 metric tons of fertiliser went missing from a government warehouse in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry constituted the probe panel, headed by Abdul Mannan, at its meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday with its chairman Mokbul Hossain in the chair.
The two other members of the panel are Nazrul Islam Babu and Nurul Islam Omar.
The committee has been asked to submit its report to the parliamentary watchdog by one month after investigating the incident.
Committee members Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzak, Muslem Uddin, Abdul Mannan, Mamunur Rashid Kiron, AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen and Nurul Islam Omar attended the meeting.
The meeting also suggested increasing manpower of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), enhancing training scope for its scientists, setting up necessary laboratories and providing adequate budgetary allocation for research purposes.
Some 60,000 bags of fertilisers were found missing from the BADC warehouse in Bhairab recently.
