Abductors of Abu Bakar Siddique, husband of BELA chief Syeda Rizwana Hassan, released him on Thursday midnight without demanding any ransom and also in an unhurt condition.
It took place around the time when a five-member investigation committee was holding a meeting with his wife at her Central Road residence in the city. He was abducted from Fatulla area in Narayanganj on Wednesday.
Abu Bakar was found in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at a police check post near Kalabagan bus stand at about 12:30 am after the kidnappers freed him in Mirpur Ansar camp area at about 11:30 pm. They also gave him Tk 300 for convene after long 35 hours of abduction in their custody.
He said he then hired a rickshaw at Mirpur and traveled to Kazipara where he picked up a CNG auto rickshaw on way home at Central Road. When police stopped the CNG auto rickshaw, they found him and knew about the man and his release.
Abu Bakar was immediately taken to Dhanmondi Police Station. His family was informed of his recovery and asked them to go to the police station. Later he was taken to his Central Road residence at around 3:00am.
But the question remained who had abducted him and what motive they had behind it.
The mystery remained unresolved although, the victim returned home unhurt.
Talking about his release, Abu Bakar said, “I could not see anything for some time even after opening the blindfold as I was blindfolded during the entire period since the abduction.”
“Just now, it is not possible for us to tell about the reason behind the abduction. Hope, we will get a clear picture about the whole incident after a thorough investigation,” said Md Sheikh Maruf Hassan, Additional Commissioner, Detective and Criminal Intelligence Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, yesterday night.
The Superintendent of Police of Naryanganj Syed Nurul Islam also could not elaborate the reasons behind the abduction and mysterious release of the victim in the mid of night.
“It is hard to make a comment about the motive behind the abduction. But we will continue our investigation based on information provided by the victim.
Abu Bakar also failed to give a clear picture about the kidnappers and the place of hiding as he was blindfolded at the time of his hostage. He also could not give enough information to the magistrate in his deposition under section 164.
Elaborating his condition during detention, he further said, “I did not see anything but heard their voices. I overheard that they were talking about possibility of getting ransom money. But they did not demand money from me. They also did not torture me.”
After completion of deposition, the police led by SP of Narayanganj took the couple to Abu Bakar’s garment factory Hamid Fashion. Later, he was taken to the place of occurrence at Fatulla.
Abu Bakar said the kidnappers had followed his car from the work place, Hamid Fashion in Narayanganj. He had gone through medical check-up by a physician on Friday.
Physician Sheikh M Forhan, after the check-up, said that he found black marks around Siddique’s eyes, nose and wrists, which prove that his hands were tied-up and he was blindfolded.
