Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten score of 66 helped Mohammedan Sporting Club reach the super-six stage of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League with a six-wicket victory against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the curtailed 42-over match at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday. With this victory, Mohammedan completed their 1st phase of the 12-team List-A league as the table topper by virtue of net run rate collecting 14 points from 11 matches with seven wins and four losses. Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Abahani Ltd have confirmed their super-six berth collecting identical 14 points from 11 matches each. Victoria Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj were the two other teams that reached the super-six stage with their respective one match to spare collecting 13 points from 10 matches apiece. Gazi Group Cricketers and Prime Bank Cricket Club are in the race for the last spot of the super-six stage. If Gazi Group can manage a win in their last match against Victoria Sporting Club at Fatullah on Thursday, they will book the last spot of the super-six by virtue of net run rate. Otherwise, Prime Bank CC will qualify for the lone spot with 12 points from 11 matches. In the day’s match, Mohammedan chased down the winning target of 188 for 4 in 32.2 overs guided by skipper Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten innings of 66 off 82 balls that witnessed seven boundaries and two sixes. Naeem Islam was another notable scorer with 51off 52 balls that included eight boundaries while Bipul Sharma added 34. Mahmudullah bagged three wickets for 52 while Abdur Rahman took one wicket for Sk Jamal DC. Earlier, sent in to bat first in the rain-interrupted match, Sk Jamal DC scored 187 for 8 in curtailed 42 overs. Opening batsman Mahbubul Karim top-scored 29 for the side while Zabid Hossain added 28 runs. Skipper Mahmudullah and number-3 batsman Marshall Ayub stayed for 27 runs each while Nazmus Sadat and Shafiul Islam (not out) for 25 runs apiece. Bipul Sharma grabbed four wickets for economic 24 runs in nine overs and was adjudged man of the match. Nazmul Hossain, Habibur Rahman, Subashis Roy and Naeem Islam Jr took one wicket each for Mohammedan. Another Wednesday’s match of the league between Legends of Rupganj and Brothers Union has been shifted to reserved day on Thursday. The dead rubber will begin at 9 am at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) Ground-3 in Savar.
