Mostafa Kamal, Acting Mayor, Narail Municipality was picked up by Jessore Kotwali police along with a rifle and two bottles of wine at around 10 pm on Sunday, said Shikder Akkas Ali, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station.
Police told Subornobhimi that the police rounded up Mostafa Kamal along with the arms and wine raiding the vehicle of the municipality at Chansra on the gateway of Jessore town at night while he was coming towards Jessore.
‘The police recovered a rifle and two bottles of wine,’ said the officer in-charge.
The officer in-charge also told that police filed a case with the police station for keeping illegal wine in his possessions. ‘The mayor has license in favor of the arms’, he added.
The mayor, however, was not produced before the court till filing of the report at 4 pm on Monday.
BNP supported elected mayor of the municipality, Julfikar Ali, is now in a jail in a case filed by the police. The ruling party activist Mostafa Kamal assumed the charge of mayor after the arrest of the mayor.
