A murder case accused was stabbed to death by another accused in the same case at the Judge’s room of a Cumilla court on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Farooq, 28, son of Wahid Ullah, from Kandi village in Manoharganj upazila of Cumilla.
Farooq was also a relative of killer Hasan, son of Shahidullah at Bhojpara village in Laksam upazila in the same district, Police said.
Cumilla district Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam said, “An accused was killed by another accused of the same case. The attacker has been detained.”
Lawyer of the case Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Nurul Islam said, “Both of them were accused in a case filed over the murder of Haji Abdul Karim in Manoharganj upazila in 2013. The accused persons, on bail, appeared before the court on Monday for hearing. Hasan (accused No 8) started chasing Farooq (accused No 4) with a knife while they were entering the court. At one point, Hasan stabbed Faruk indiscriminately as the latter rushed to the judge’s room in a bid to save his life.”
Farooq was severely injured and taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where the on-duty physician declared him dead on arrival, the lawyer added.
Following the incident, Judge Fatema Ferdous told reporters, an accused was killed in front of me. I myself could have been attacked. Are we safe in any place?”
