Muhith for friendly relations between tax collectors, taxpayers

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Tuesday called for strengthening further the friendly relations between tax collectors and taxpayers to expedite the collection process for fulfilling the revenue target of fiscal 2016-17.
“We collect tax for providing services. In this way, we will bring prosperity in the country. There are rewards for the tax collectors to encourage them for becoming friends of the taxpayers,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the “Income Tax Camp and Taxpayers Motivation Programme, 2017” at Mirpur Convention Centre in the city.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) taxes zone-3, Dhaka organised the programme to provide all types of services, including obtaining electronic taxpayers identification number, payment of tax and receiving certificates at the camp.
Member of Parliament (Dhaka-16) M Elias Uddin Mollah, Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of NBR Md Nojibur Rahman also spoke on the occasion with Tax Commissioner of the Taxes Zone-3, Dhaka Nahar Ferdousi Begum in the chair.
Urging all to pay tax in stipulated time, Muhith said it is joyful for the government that every one helps to pay income tax and many of them above 40 years old.
Thanking the NBR to expedite the income tax collection, he said, there was a big change at the tax collection process as the revenue collection is now counted in lakh crore Taka which was counted in hundred crore earlier.
The minister also said Bangladesh will reach a stable position within the next five years and there will be no poor people in the country by 2024. Muhith said police is essential to keep smooth law and order situation in the country as the force is working for serving the people.
Without the police, the people cannot sleep peacefully and most of the people cannot move freely in the streets, he added.
Nojibur Rahman said the government has taken different mega projects and revenue is essential to implement those projects.
Like every year, he informed that NBR will organise a income tax fair on November.
