Muggers shot SAU teacher, Tk 7.8 lakh snatched in city

Muggers shot and injured a teacher of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and snatched away Tk 7.80 lakh from him at Mohammadpur in the city on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Parimal Kanti Biswas, a teacher of Agronomy department. He was admitted to Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital with bullet injury in the left leg.
Azizul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station said, a gang of muggers attacked the varsity teacher near Residential Model College at around 1:00pm and snatched the money from him after shooting in his leg. Parimal was going home after drawing the cash from a Post Office there, said Professor Md Shadat Ulla, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
In another incident, the muggers shot a trader and took away Tk 24.5 lakh from him at Zero Point area under Fatulla Police Station at about 10:00am yesterday.
Police said, the victim Helal Uddin, 30, came under attack of the miscreants when he was going to his shop at Gulistan along with the money, which he had received selling a piece of land at his village home of Shantidhara area in Kadamtoli.
He was supposed to deposit the cash in Islami Bank Jatrabari Branch. But he was incepted by three motorcycle riders at Zero Point in Fatullah. The muggers shot him in the leg from point blank range and took away the money.
When contacted, Officer-in Charge of Fatulla Police Station said, “We have launched an operation to nab the culprits. A case has been filed in this connection.”
