MTB Independence Cup Squash begins on March 2

The Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) Independence Cup Squash begins Wednesday (March 2) at the Bangladesh Navy’s squash complex and Gulshan squash court in the city.
Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain MP is expected to inaugurate the meet as the chief guest. Bangladesh Squash Federation (BSF) president Farque Khan MP will present as the special guest.
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy Shaheen Iqbal, Gulshan Club president Sakhawat Abul Khayer, MTB managing director and chief executive officer Anis A Khan will also present in the inauguration ceremony.
Sponsored by MTB, a total of 92 players, including two national squash players of Nepal, will compete in the five events of seven-day meet, organised by Bangladesh Squash Federation (BSF).
The five events are premier division, A division, B division, under-17 division and under-11 division. Country’s four best players and two Nepalese national players will represent in the premier division.
In this regards, a press conference was held on Monday at the National Sports Council conference room to give all the details of the meet.
Sami Hafiz, group chief commerce officer of MTB, who was present in the press conference said, Bangladesh achieved bronze medal in squash for the second time in recently concluded South Asian Games and if the squash has been given proper patronisation, then the players would able to bring more laurels for the country in future.
He said as a social corporate responsibility, MTB have come forward to stand beside the squash federation and if necessary, they would continue their support for the development of squash in future.
BSF joint secretary Ershad Hossain and BSF member Brig. Gen (retd.), GM Quamrul Islam, among others were present on the occasion.
