Sometimes, it hurts so much being a cricket fan. The day when MS Dhoni walks out from cricket could be the worst news for the fans. In a recent development, it has been learnt that MS Dhoni is likely to retire after ICC World Cup (WC) 2019.
The man who has done so much for India will be missed after he makes a sudden decision. He is the only captain to have won three ICC trophies (T20 World Cup 2007, ODI World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013).
“You never know with MS Dhoni. But it is unlikely that he will continue to play for India after this World Cup. But since his decisions to quit captaincy from the three formats have been taken so suddenly, it is very difficult to predict at the moment,” a top BCCI official told news agency PTI.
The present selection committee, which is expected to stay till the BCCI’s AGM in October, will start the transformation process with a view of hunting for the 2020 ICC World T20 in Australia. With India already qualifying for the semifinals at the ongoing World Cup 2019, neither the team management nor India’s governing body wants to discuss the sensitive issue. Despite giving everything on the pitch, MS Dhoni is being targeted everywhere. He has scored 223 runs in 7 games at a decent strike rate of 93. “The team management had to take a call in 2017 after the Champions Trophy. They decided that they will invest another two years in Dhoni till the 2019 World Cup. India have reached the semi-finals despite his lukewarm performances so he has been carefully shielded,” a former India cricketer said.
