MP Liton gets bail to join JS session

A Gaibandha court on Sunday granted ad interim bail to Manjurul Islam Liton, an Awami League (AL) MP from Gaibandha-1 Constituency, in a case filed for shooting a minor boy.
According to agency report, additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Moinul Hasan Yousuf passed the order after hearing a petition filed seeking Liton’s bail so that he can attend the 10th Parliament session.
Earlier Advocate Sirajul Islam, lawyer for the MP, submitted the bail petition and on Thursday the court fixed November 8 for hearing on bail.
DB police arrested MP Liton from the Dhaka city’s Uttara area on October 14. The following day, he was taken to Gaibandha. The arrest had come hours after the arrest.
Supreme Court (SC) stayed a High Court order directing the ruling party MP to surrender in a lower court by October 18 in the cases.
On the morning of October 2, Sourav Mia was shot in both legs allegedly by the MP when the boy was taking a morning walk with his uncle at Gopalcharan village of the upazila. Sourav suffered serious wounds in both legs because of he alleged shooting by the MP.
The next day, Sourav’s father Saju Mia filed an attempt to murder case against the ruling party lawmaker.
Besides, Liton was sued in another case on October 6 on charges of vandalising a house and looting furniture and corrugated iron sheets from its roof in a Gaibandha village soon after the shooting.
