A mother and her daughter were burned to death as their house was set on fire at a village in Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj upazila early on Tuesday.
The deceased were Taslima, 45, wife of Chan Miah of Faraspur village, and her daughter Tasli.
Chan Miah and the couple’s another daughter Urmi, 20, were also injured in the fire. Additional superintendent of police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh said miscreants set the house of Chan Miah ablaze by pouring petrol when they were asleep at about 3:00 am.
Local people rescued four members of the family from the house and first rushed them to Jessore Medical College Hospital from where they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Later, Taslima and her daughter Tasli succumbed to their injures on way to DMCH at about 8:00 am on Tuesday.
The victims’ family suspects Kamal Hossain, husband of Chan Miah’s daughter Urmi, a resident of Lebitala of Jessore, might be responsible for the incident, the ASP added.
The ASP also said police are trying to arrest Kamal.
