A day-long workshop on ‘Draft Strategic Plan for Higher Education in Bangladesh 2017-2026′ organized by Strategic Policy Unit under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project was held at UGC Auditorium yesterday . Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC presided over the function. Mohiuddin Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education and Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank spoke on the occasion. Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, ndc, Project Director, Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) delivered the welcome address. Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC presided over the technical session. Prof Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam presented a draft report on Strategic Plan for Higher Education in Bangladesh 2017-2026’. Earlier, the Ministry of Education formed six expert committees to formulate strategic plan for tertiary education and research in universities of Bangladesh. UGC Chairman, in his speech said that the report on strategic plan for public and private universities will play an important role for enhancement of quality higher education and research in Bangladesh. Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC , Md. Helal Uddin, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, conveners of the six expert committees, vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors, senior professors from public and private universities and high officials from Ministry of Education, UGC and HEQEP, among others were present on the occasion.
BAF Shaheen English Medium School
BAF Shaheen English Medium School (SEMS) gracefully marked her Silver Jubilee 2017 celebration; wrapping up the day with a special cultural programme and concert at its premises in the capital on Wednesday. The school proudly completes her twenty five years of journey, with a lot of commendable accomplishments, in providing quality education by upholding Bangladeshi culture. Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc, Chief of Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force inaugurated the daylong Silver Jubilee ceremony and graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The opening ceremony, was followed by a colourful cultural show depicting the culture and heritage of the country by the present students and teachers of the school. A rally marking the day was attended by the former students, current students and teachers of the school. In his welcome speech, Group Captain Md. Mamunur Rahid, afwc, psc, the Principal of the school congratulated all the former and current students, teachers, well-wishers of the school. On this occasion, the Chief Guest highly appreciated the remarkable feat attained by the students of the school and hoped that BAF SEMS would make itself the role model to other institutions in the city. He congratulated all the members of BAF SEMS on this special occasion of Silver Jubilee celebration and thanked all the well-wishers for their outstanding and unconditional support extended towards BAF SEMS for the past 25 years and he reinforced his commitment to cherish BAF SEMS for another 25 years and more to come.
Foundation for Learning, Teaching and Research
The launching ceremony of the Foundation for Learning, Teaching and Research (fLTR) was held at the auditorium of ULAB on Tuesday. Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury presided the ceremony while UGC Prof Abdul Mannan was present on the occasion as Chief Guest and announced the formal launching of the Foundation. Prof Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assurance Unit of UGC and Jim Scarth, OBE, Deputy Director, British Council were present as the Special Guests. The launching ceremony was attended by a large numberof academicians from different sectors and faculty members of different universities. The fLTR is a collective initiative of nine vice chancellors of reputed private universities under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury with a mission of influencing and improving learning and teaching practices and preparing competent, ethically driven learners’ centered professional teachers and researchers at the university level.
