Chittagong district administration has built a monument at city’s historic Cheragi Pahar intersection where four martyrs of Liberation War were killed on March 28 in 1971.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong Abdul Mannan today formally inaugurated the monument built in memory of the Liberation War martyrs- Basharuzzaman Chowdhury, Jafar Chowdhury, Dipok Barua and Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury.
DC Abdul Mannan in his speech said the authority was very happy to show respect to the Liberation War martyrs though it has been done after long 43 years.
“We should also work for the preservation of the memorial as the anti-liberation forces are always active to destroy the memories of the freedom fighters”, he added.
Liberation War martyr Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury’s brother Shamsul Alam Chowdhury said they were very happy and thankful to the Chittagong district administration for taking such step.
Elderly journalist and freedom fighter Nasiruddin Chowdhury, freedom fighters – Mozaffar Ahmed, Shahidul Hoque Chowdhury, Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury’s brother Shamsul Alam Chowdhury and Jafar Chowdhury’s brother Zakir Hossain, among others, were present at the function.
Basharuzzaman Chowdhury, the younger brother of late Awami League leader Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury, along with his three friends were killed in an ambush by the Pakistani forces at Cheragi Pahar area on March 28 in 1971.
