Monitoring of BGMEA, police begins in RMG sector

Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the authority of Industrial Police in Chittagong launched monitoring in garments sector fearing the tense and discontent situation among the workers centring the payments of salary and Eid bonus before the Eid festival.
Though there is no change of tense among the workers in most factories in the CEPZ areas and other compliance factories but fears about the sub-contract factories. BGMEA is annoyed about the sub-contract factories .
 In a recent meeting at BGMEA office in Chittagong, Industrial Police authority requested the apex body of the RMG sector to ensure the payment of salary and bonus before Eid. Director of Industrial police, Tofael Ahmed Miah told that discontent and commotion creates centring the payment of salary and bonus before Eid every year in the garments sector. So we are alert not to reiterate this situation again this year and hence monitoring is launched beforehand . They suspect about 50 factories where instability may arise and police is keeping watch over these factories. The meeting was told that about 10 thousand RMG workers became jobless of 7 factories in city following the shut down by the inspection team of building code body .
Tension is also prevailing in these 7 factories for the last one month. While contacted first Vice Presdient of BGMEA, chittagong chapter Nasir Ahmed chowdhury told that it is the prime responsibilities of the owners to pay salary and bonus in due time.
