An allround performance by Mominul Haque helped Victoria Sporting Club to finish their super league with a 17-run victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited held on Wednesday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Narayanganj.
Batting first after winning the toss, Victoria SC, rode on two half centuries by Mominul Haque (58) and Al-Amin (55) able to score a moderate total of 205 for all in 48.3 overs.
Victoria were rattled early, but Mominul Haque and Al-Amin stopped the rot with positive batting. After they were sent back to the pavilion, Mohammedan bowlers broke Victoria’s back with wickets late in the innings.
Mohammedan captain Naeem Islam used six bowlers today, and almost all of them gave him important breakthroughs. Enamul Haque jnr grabbed 3-45 in 10 while Habibur Rahman and Faisal Hossain claimed two wickets apiece.
In reply, Mohammedan found the chase very stiff losing wickets in regular intervals and finally dismissed at a paltry total of 188 in 42 overs though the Motijheel based outfit looked like they were firmly in the driver’s seat at 3-132 inside 28 overs.
However, Victoria bowlers rose to the occasion and took wickets at regular intervals.
Opener Nazimuddin contributed run-a-ball 50 runs while Mushfiqur Rahim added 46 runs, but the rest of the Mohammedan batsmen could keep the flow throwing their wickets whimsically.
Mominul Haque was the pick of Victorians bowler as he claimed three wickets conceding 29 runs. He was well supported by Fazle Mahmud who captured two wickets conceding 25 runs.
Mominul Haque of Victoria was named the player of the match for his all round performance.
