Staff Reporter: Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users Association on Monday urged the government through a statement, to allocate free bandwidth to the mobile operators for the certain time due to coronavirus outbreak so that they can offer free internet services to the users.
The association said free telecommunication services have been ensured in other countries to the citizens during this virus crisis period.
“Our government can take the initiative so that the people can stay at home,” said Mohiuddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users Association.
He said people are staying at home since the mass shutdown from March 25 and doing their office work using the internet.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, voice calls have declined 20 percent while internet use has increased by 25 percent. This causes operators to incur huge revenue losses, he said.
“So that the government can consider free spectrum allocation,” he said.
