Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh), was observed across the country on Wednesday with due religious solemnity.
On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad (pbuh) was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day.
The day was a public holiday.
The Muslims across the country joined special prayers marking the day.
Various religious and socio-cultural organisations and political parties,
mosques and madrasahs, including Islamic Foundation, chalked out elaborate programmes, including milad mahfil, discussion and Qurankhwani, on the occasion.
President Abdul Hamid hosted a milad mahfil at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban after Zohr prayers on the occasion.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, State Minister for Finance MA Mannan, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, Jatiya Oikyafront chief Dr Kamal Hossain, diplomats of different Muslim countries, Members of Parliament, political leaders, secretaries of different ministries and high civil and military officials also attended the Milad.
Iran Cultural Centre, Dhaka, a wing of Iranian Embassy, organised a discussion and milad mahfil titled ‘The Great Prophet Hazrat Muhammad: The Prophet of Blessing, Peace and Friendship’ at Daffodil International University on the occasion.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and other satellite TV channels and radio stations aired special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
