The government has installed web-based monitoring system at the toll plazas of Meghna and Gumti Bridges in a bid to prevent toll dodging, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday.
The minister inaugurated the monitoring system through a videoconferencing at the secretariat.
More than Tk 80 lakh is expected to be collected a day with the installation of the system and the amount was said to be double than the previous one, the minister said at a press briefing after inaugurating the system.
Road Transport and Highways Division inked a five-year deal with Computer System Network (CSN) in this regard, Quader added.
He said some Tk 1,277 crore can be collected in the next five years through the system.
Besides, Quader inaugurated two Excel Load Control Stations at Bathuli on Dhaka-Aricha Highway and Bara Darogar Hat at Sitakunda on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in an attempt to trace the vehicles carrying excess load.
The two stations were installed by Regnum Resource Ltd with the technological help of Canada, the minister said.
