Farmers of Patuakhali are worried as pests attack their Aman fields at a large scale. Majr’ a kind of incest attacked and ‘leave folding’ disease also found in the field and affecting the both Aman saplings . Leaves of the paddy are drying day by day.
Accordance to Patuakhali Agriculture Extension office, a total 2,969 hectores land of Aman paddy were c attacked by insects and disease and out it 1,531 hectors attacked by Majra insect and more 1,438 hectors attacked by ‘leave folding’ disease.
But local farmers claimed quantities of attacked fields would be 10 times more.
New fields are being attacked day by day and we are very worried over these matters, said, Md. Delwar Hossain, a farmer of Ballovpur village under Patuakhai sadar upazila.
I cultivated Aman on my three acres of land and most of my fields have already attacked, he said.
I already used some chemical from local markets but not getting result, he added.
Abdul Haque, another farmer of nearby Matherbunia village under same upazila said, leaves of aman fields are drying day by day and we also frustrated as aman is the main crop in the area.
Ashok Kumer Sharma, Deputy Director (DD) for Department of Agriculture Extension said, we heard about the matter and field level officers have already started work with farmers to meet the problem.
