News Desk :
Election commissioner Mahbub Talukdar on Monday said that Bangladesh’s mass people had no participation in the electoral process in the last five years while the ‘game of money’ dominated the elections.
‘Lawmakers are now giving more attention to development than making law while supremacy of businesspeople in the politics is gently increasing,’ Mahbub Talukdar said at a press conference at Nirbachon Bhaban in the capital on Monday.
He said that development couldn’t be an alternative to democracy.
From the UP elections to the parliamentary elections, the reflection of people’s will was absent everywhere, he said.
He also said that the union parishad polls had shown that democracy was missing from elections.
He said that the biggest weakness of the Election Commission was the lack of action against the allegations of anomalies and partiality of those affiliated with the polls.
