Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan underscored the need for creating mass awareness among the people of all strata including transport owners, workers, passengers, pedestrians and rural masses about checking frequent road accidents.
The shipping minister said transports drivers are not only the persons responsible for road accidents. He said generating awareness among the people is also necessary to avoid the road accident.
Shajahan Khan said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by Save the Road at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Chaired by Save the Road chairman and noted labour leader ZM Qamrul Anam, the meetings also was addressed, among others, by Save the Road Vice-Chairman Manjurul Alam Tipu, Sarak Parivahan Sramik Federation Organizing Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman, Save the Road Vice-Chairman Humayra Afrin Rumi and General Secretary Lion Shanta Farzana.
“Laws have been formulated for the people related with the transport sector but we have a tendency to defy the laws. We have to show respect to the laws for checking the road accident,” Khan told the function.
